Jackson is a drummer and composer. While he played tuba at Redwood, it is not his current focus. Jackson recently moved from Denver to New York, where he was a freelance jazz/rock/funk musician, as well as a member of Mama Magnolia, a nationally touring group. He now lives in Brooklyn, working to establish himself in a new music scene. Jackson and another Redwood alumni, Jake Botts, formed the band NINJA and perform around New York City. In addition to performing, Jackson strives to become a better manager as a self-employed musician, composing and creating fresh ideas for the group Mama Magnolia.
Favorite RHS music memory: “Listening sessions in the music room (during class and outside of class). Walking around Redwood with a tuba in hand, jamming Dirty Dozen Brass Band lines with different students. Definitely traveling to Mattern’s property in Ukiah, where he hosted all of us for food and hiking.”
